Mesoamerica is characterized by its high biodiversity and this is because it is the confluence of flora and fauna from the biogeographic regions of the Nearctic (North America) and the Neotropics (South America). Ecological diversity in Mesoamerica have been affected by altitudinal variation ranging from sea level to 4,000 meters above sea level, which has also resulted in a greater diversity of ecosystems: Rainforest Humid Tropical Rainy Forest, Forest Mountain Forest, Mountain, Chaparral Prickly, subtropical wet forest and tropical moist savanna.
